KAYA EATS // Adventures in Baby Led Weaning

I'm a short order cook y'all.  I make different meals for multiple people in our house.  This madness, has.  Got.  To.  Stop.

My boys are super picky, partially because, I allowed them to and partially because they know what they like and don't like.  But wanting pasta, every damn day?  Really??!

Enter baby led weaning for the baby.   You can read all about it here.  It doesn't mean weaning off of nursing (don't worry, I plan to keep that up as long as I did boys if she'll let me and since she won't take a bottle, I'm thinking we'll be a-ok in that department)  But letting your baby eat real food from the get go.  In the hopes of introducing a big variety of flavors early.  Meaning--please God let her not be as picky as her brothers.

I'm no expert, so I won't go into too many details on what you can/can't have etc.  If I was a first time Mom, I'm not sure I would venture into this World because it can be a little nerve racking watching them, and I am still not completely positive we'll be sticking with it because well, purees are so much easier and waaaay less messy.  But with a million other things I need to be doing and tending to, steaming, pureeing, storing baby food is not on my list of things to do!

It's been about 2 weeks that we've done BLW.  We started with avocado and broccoli.  She's now had avocado, broccoli, banana, apple, green beans, sweet potato, chicken, steak, eggs, Mexican quinoa, meatballs and bean and cheese breakfast taco.  Broccoli being her favorite and the breakfast taco coming in hot.  Total Kennan.

Meal time is now Matilda's most favorite time of the day ;-)

Kaya grunts and hums when she eats too.  Sounds about right.  The boys love watching her eat and are quick to make sure she's not gagging etc which she does do (yikes!) but we're having so much fun with BLW, so for now we'll be keeping it up!

Coltrane + Kaya

I still have 333879 photos to upload so I'm not sure why I'm just now deciding to say, fuggedaboutit and share as I snap but...I am.
Perhaps it's because I'm sitting in Kaya's room since she's NAPPING in here now and am too afraid to move?

Look,  I'm not going to lie, having a third baby has really rocked my World.  More on that another time.  Some days I'm seriously not sure if it's Monday or Friday or if I've even eaten--just kidding, of course I've eaten, THAT is something that I won't ever forget to do...I wish I was one of those girls, oh, hmm, yeah, I forgot to eat today.  Just, no.
Anyway, I'm exhausted, disorganized, a hot mess, exhausted, overwhelmed, exhausted and then I stop and look over at my two babiest babies and my heart bursts.  Explodes with millions of the heart eye emoji, you know the one I'm talking about.

I melted onto the grass during the taking of these photos.  And not because of the TX heat.

I can't even.
I'm melllltttiinnggggg.
Her new trick at 6.5 months.  "So Big"
Baby boy.
Middle child.
Our sour patch kid.
Who is THE sweetest.
I love you extra every day.

Little Bits // 6 months

Remember when I was going to keep up with this blog?  That was a nice plan.

So here we are three months after I said I would get all caught up.  And season started, kids' sports started, school started, Coltrane got sick and I drank all the wine...I promise to get caught up one day (I say that as I head into my busy work season too).

So here's a little video of Kaya girl at 6 months in the meantime.  See y'all in three months at her 9 month video!

Little Bits // 3 Months

Y'all, I promise, I am working on consolidating all the photos that I've been taking (sadly, it hasn't been as much as I thought) but in between carpooling the kids around, working, feeding Kaya girl etc etc, it's really last on my list of things to do.  Give me another week and I'll bombard y'all with my monthly breakdown of photos!

I thought it would be fun to record a glimpse of what a typical morning is like for us this Summer.

*Note, this was before we had to be out the door to head to VBS early, so mornings have not been this leisurely as of late...more me running around while nursing Kaya, looking for the "other" shoe that we can't find only to find it in my hand, missing keys, reheated coffee, not remembering if we had brushed our teeth or not and questioning whether we fed the dog yesterday :-)

Mom life yo.

9 weeks
Kaya 9 weeks up to 3 months!

Downie so kindly hosted a little Sip n See for me and Kaya at her gorgeous home.
10 weeks
11 weeks

Kaya girl loves her Momma.
Is happiest first thing in the morning and right after her first nap.
We're starting to get on a baby led schedule.
She can roll from belly to back,
makes us work for that smile.
She's a chatty cathy and loves her brothers to pieces.

Wedded BLISS // Our Anniversary

I was supposed to get us a table at the new restaurant in town, Southerleigh.  And I totally flaked and tried my dang hardest the day of to get us in to no avail.  Soooooo...we decided to head to Southtown and go to Bliss.  Just like our wedded bliss ;-)

As it turns out, I realized the only "real" pictures I have, are of the food we ate.  Sounds about right!

Crispy fried gulf oysters.
Candied bacon.
Buttermilk, chive biscuits.
Spinach and brown butter hollandaise.

I'm not even going to pretend that I didn't give Kyle a look that said, if you love me and want to stay married to me you better let me have 3 and you get 1 of these.  And Kyle gave me a look that said, as you wish, buttercup.

And that my friends, is the secret to a happy marriage.

We each had two.  Come on now!

Whenever I see the word goat cheese on a menu, I order it.  And when the word goat cheese, comes after the words warm sessame crusted, Kyle and I will slowly make eye contact and we'll both nod in unison and in slow motion.

And the beet goes on.

A bit salty, but oh so tasty.  This was our servers first time to filet this dish tableside and he did a great job!
I'm sure us asking him how many times he's done this before and me taking photos of him whilst filet-ing the fish, while his boss watched from the corner really put him at ease.

Because...I usually order the salmon.

Flourless dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse.
Sweet corn gelato.
Caramel popcorn
Fleur de Sel (said like the Teeerrrrget Lady)
Bourbon caramel sauce.

Gone in 60 seconds.

Kyle and I have lived a thousand lifetimes together it seems.  Growing, learning, forgiving, laughing and loving each other.  I'll close this by writing up what Kyle wrote because he summed it up far better than the jumbled words in my heart could ever get together.

What I've learned in 7 years of marriage (abbreviated version):
It's not easy, sometimes it's very hard.
There's no song after an argument that allows
both of us to ponder and make-up like in the movies, you just have to do it.
 It's about sacrifice.
There's no more "I" it's about "we".
Alone time is sacred.
On the other hand, in our case, it's about a lot of laughter.
We laugh with the best of them.
And together, we make great parents,
which is undoubtedly the scariest and most fulfilling job we have.
We've made 3 absolutely precious children.
And through hard times,
amazing times
and a lot of tears,
we've become a pretty awesome duo.
I love you more every day Abigail.
You're my best friend.
Each day, at some point, I think about how happy you make me.
Happy Anniversary.
